There are three main types of fireplaces; standard wood burning, gas burning, electric. The gas burning units can be time consuming and expensive to install and in some locations would require permits and professionals to be involved. Electric fireplaces are a fast friendly alternative. And, they are not bound by the limits of most units in that some models are portable. The other two types are mandated to stay in one place either due to weight, being built into the wall, or being attached to an immoveable gas line. But an electric model can be moved to anywhere that's close to a 220 electric socket. Nice!
